Your TPTA
We would like to welcome you to the Alton T.P.T.A. at Alton Public School. For parents and students who are new to Alton, here is a brief outline of the history and function of the T.P.T.A.
In the 1980’s when enrolment had dropped to 30 students, there was pressure to close the school. The community of Alton came together to “save the school” and stop any closure. At this time 90% of the adult population of Alton joined the parents and teachers of Alton School to form the T.P.T.A. (Taxpayer, Parent, and Teacher Association). This community school based organization continues to provide assistance to the students, teachers and principal.
The main function of the TPTA is to raise money for school items not provided for within the regular school budget. Various items provided include Kindergarten Kits, Double Map for the Library, Gym Equipment, Projector Screen, Soccer Nets, Globe, Silverbirch Books, Triple hoop, Sweet Adeline’s and many more items. In addition to the above the TPTA subsidizes bus trips, school planners and provides the funds for the annual friendship skate.
